Assemble Communities have created Australia’s first “Build to Rent to Own” project at 38 Albermarle Street. The seven-storey, multi-residential project in Kensington will allow renters to transition to ownership of their units after a five-year period. There were 3000 registrations for the 73 units and the great majority of renters have expressed their intent to buy the unit at the end of their rental. The judges believe this is a model that will become far more common in the future, easing the so-called rental “crisis” and allowing people to move into ownership to protect their lifestyles as they age.
