    HomeBuilder Stimulus Package Clarification Sought

A message from Simon Basheer, UDIA National President

UDIA National is continuing to engage with the Federal Government on the next layer of detail that needs to be provided to deliver clarity and certainty to the industry around the Federal Government’s housing and construction stimulus package released late last week.

We have been in dialogue with the office of the Minister for Housing and Assistant Treasurer, Michael Sukkar, on a host of issues - particularly relate to the provisions in the scheme and their application to off-the-plan apartments and townhouse projects, as well as circumstances where the purchaser has a contract with a developer, but not the builder.

We have also raised a host of other matters raised by members, including definitions of the ‘commencement of construction’ trigger in the package, and eligibility under the scheme for different types of house-and-land products. UDIA National has been working with our state divisions to identify the issues industry wants us to advance and clarify.

The latest advice is that an updated FAQ on details of the scheme should be issued in the next 24 hours, so hopefully that will provide more substantial guidance.

UDIA National is also aligning our advocacy efforts with other industry organisations with similar interests to ensure we continue to engage at a ministerial and agency level on further technical issues we expect will require more work.

We will keep you updated as we hear more.
