UDIA advocates for the development of quality, innovative and sustainable communities.

Our Innovation, Sustainability and Technology Committee operates to promote sustainability initiatives, and to remove the barriers to sustainable development, in our industry.

The three pillars of sustainability – economic, social and environmental – provide a challenge for the industry and can mean the difference between a successful venture and failure.

There are three main features which distinguish a sustainable approach to development:

  • consideration, in an integrated way, of the wider economic, social and environmental implications of our decisions and actions for Australia, the international community and the biosphere
  • employing a long-term rather than short-term view when taking those decisions and actions
  • taking action through awareness and education programs to the community
