URBAN DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA (UDIA)
Victorian Division

~ABOUT UDIA MEMBERSHIP~

~UDIA ANNUAL EVENTS CALENDAR~

47 Years

Serving the Industry

The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) was established in 1975 and is the peak membership body for the urban development sector.  Working closely with state and local government decision-makers the UDIA gives the industry a voice on the issues that matter and advocates for positive policy reform.

Members include state and local government as well as developers, builders, utility and infrastructure providers, engineers, lawyers, civil construction, surveyors, planners, sales, design, marketing and other professional services firms.

Our central purpose is to advocate for increased certainty, reduced costs and reduced regulatory burden to all stakeholders in the land development process.

Key focus areas are on housing affordability, the effectiveness of the Victorian planning and development approval system, availability of development finance and the cost and delivery of infrastructure and services.

UDIA evidence-based advice, solutions and submissions to policy-makers and regulators are highly regarded, trusted and credible.  We bring together industry expertise and government policy to empower the urban development sector to deliver great urban spaces.

The expert UDIA Policy Team advocates on behalf of members on issues such as planning, infrastructure, affordability, innovation & sustainability, finance and tax, charges and levies and the cost of construction and development.

The UDIA is proud to represent the views, wants and needs of urban development professionals and their customers, who include everyday Victorian housing owners, aspiring homebuyers, renters and our most vulnerable residents including those eligible for social and affordable housing
.

UDIA Residential Development Index (RDI)

The UDIA RDI measures the health of Victoria’s residential development industry and is updated bi-annually.

The RDI examines the dynamics impacting the industry, including economic conditions, population growth, development activity, trend data, regulatory changes and policy implications. These industry activity fundamentals inform the RDI, which determines whether the industry is operating in a strong, moderate or weak market, relative to recent and long history.

In 2016-17 the construction of new dwellings made a contribution to the Victorian economy of more than $20 billion.

This contribution is expected to have increased to over $22.9 billion in 2017-18. This does not include the contribution that the sector makes to the Victorian Government's own source tax collections.

The sector sustained over 162,000 jobs in Victoria in 2016-17.
